Rest in Peace, Mario 47 years wasn't enough time, but you lived every minute to the fullest. My heart broke when Tony called and told me you were gone. The 5 of us—you, Cory, Tony, Nick and I—were inseparable growing up. We couldn't wait for each new day just to ride bikes, hang out, and make memories that would last a lifetime. From the ditches we explored to the pranks you pulled, every moment was an adventure. Mario, you were fearless, wild, and full of life. Whether you were catching snakes, pulling crazy stunts, or making everyone laugh, there was never a dull moment with you. You had your own way of showing love and loyalty—and we always knew you had our backs. You weren't just a friend. You were a brother, a father, a cousin, an uncle, and a son. To know you was to have a good time and a good heart in your corner. To Aleena, Junior, his grandbabies, Pops, Tony, Carmen, and the whole family—my heart is with you. I hope you find peace in the memories, the laughter, and the love he gave so freely. I love you, Mario. You'll always be with us. Until we meet again🙏🏻

MY BEST FRIEND MARIO, IF YOU ARE LIKE MYSELF YOU PROBABLY FIND YOURSELF QUESTIONING GOD WHY? I CAME TO THE REALIZATION LONG AGO THAT GOD ALWAYS HAS A PLAN. MY SECOND YEAR OF KINDERGARTEN I DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHY ALL OF MY FRIENDS I HAD MADE WE'RE NOW ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FENCE ON THE BIG KID SIDE AND I WAS STILL ON THE LITTLE KID SIDE BUT GOD'S PLAN WAS IN MOTION THAT SECOND YEAR OF KINDERGARTEN IS WHERE I MET MY BEST FRIEND MARIO! THOUGH MANY MEMORIES OF THAT YEAR ARE PATCHY I AGAIN FOUND MYSELF NOT UNDERSTANDING WHERE MY FRIEND MARIO HAD GONE COME MY FIRST GRADE YEAR NOW THAT I WAS ON THE BIG KID SIDE OF THE FENCE. UNKNOWN TO ME MARIO HAD BEEN TRANSFERRED FROM PATTERSON TO CABRILLO ON THE OTHER SIDE OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. MARIO LIVED JUST TWO STREETS OVER FROM ME UNKNOWINGLY, I WASN'T ALLOWED TO GO FURTHER THEN THE SIDE STREET THAT SEPARATED HIS HOME FROM MINE AS I HAD MANY FRIENDS MY MOM KNEW ON THIS STREET THAT WAS MY BOUNDARY TO NOT PASS. BUT THAT ALL CHANGED ONE DAY AS OUT OF NOWHERE MARIO APPEARED RIDING DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET ON HIS BIKE! HEY MARIO!!! IT WAS NOT LONG THAT THE FRIENDS I HAD KNOWN PARENTS QUIT LETTING ME HANG OUT BECAUSE OF MY HELL RAISING BEST FRIEND MARIO, BUT TRUTH BE TOLD WE WERE JUST KIDS BEING KIDS, LIVING LIFE WITH NO CARE OF RULES OR BOUNDARIES! IF WE WERE TOLD NOT TO GO SOMEWHERE WE KNEW IT'D BE SAFE PLAYING THERE BECAUSE IT'D BE THE LAST PLACE OUR PARENTS WOULD LOOK BECAUSE WE WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THERE! ME AND MY BROTHER MIKE WOULD SHOW UP COUNTLESS TIMES TO MARIO AND TONY'S HOME ON OUR BIKES ONLY TO HAVE POPS SAY YOU GUYS ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE UNTIL YOU CLEAN THE BACKYARD OR THE HOUSE! MORE TIMES THAN NOT YOU'D SEE MIKE RIDING OFF ON HIS BIKE WHILE I'D HEAD TO THE BACKYARD AND START PULLING WEEDS AND PICKING UP APPLES SO WE COULD HEAD OUT ON OUR NEXT ADVENTURE! THERE IS NOT MUCH I WOULD CHANGE ABOUT OUR CHILDHOOD EXCEPT MAYBE NOT PICKING ON TONY SO MUCH! ME AND MY BEST FRIEND MARIO WERE INSEPARABLE FOR YEARS WHERE EVER THERE WAS MARIO THERE WAS I AND VICE VERSA. WE DID EVERYTHING TOGETHER. WE'VE SPENT YEARS APART AT TIMES, THE FIRST BEING WHEN MARIO MOVED TO HIS MOM'S IN BRENTWOOD FOR A YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL OR WHEN I GOT MARRIED MY FIRST TIME BUT NO MATTER THE TIME THAT HAD PASSED APART WE ALWAYS PICKED RIGHT BACK UP WHERE WE LEFT OFF DOING EVERYTHING TOGETHER SOME WOULD SAY STILL RAISING HELL BUT I STILL SAY WE WERE JUST HAVING FUN. YOU'D KNOW WHEN MARIO AND CORY WHERE SOMEWHERE BECAUSE YOU'D HEAR MY LOUD MOUTH AND YOU KNEW IT WAS GOING TO BE A GOOD TIME BECAUSE MARIO WAS THERE FOR OUR ENTERTAINMENT WITH HIS CRAZY ANTICS OF KEEPING THOSE AROUND HIM AMUSED AND AT MANY TIMES SHAKING OUR HEADS IN DISBELIEF! THE LAST DOZEN YEARS HAS BEEN THE LONGEST HARDEST PART OF OUR FRIENDSHIP BEING APART AS OUR PATHS WENT IN POLAR OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS OF ONE ANOTHER. I HAD RECENTLY RAN INTO MARIO AT HOMEDEPOT AND WE HAD OUR FIRST REAL CONVERSATION IN YEARS THAT LEFT ME SMILING AND FEELING HOPE FOR MY BEST FRIEND MARIO AND I TO AMEND OUR FRIENDSHIP AND MAYBE PICKING RIGHT BACK UP LIKE WE HAD MANY TIMES BEFORE OVER THE LAST FOUR DECADES. MY HEARTBROKE WHEN TONY TOLD ME OF MARIO HAD PASSED. THAT WAS ONE OF THE HARDEST PHONE CALLS I'VE EVER RECEIVED AND I HAVE NEVER LOST SOMEONE I CARED FOR SO MUCH IN MY LIFE AS I HAD CARED FOR MY BEST FRIEND MARIO. MY HEART IS BROKEN FOR ALEENA, JUNIOR, AND ALL OF MY LEDESMA FAMILY. I LOVE YOU ALL AND I THANK YOU FOR SHARING MY BEST FRIEND MARIO WITH ME FOR THE BETTER PART OF THE LAST 42 YEARS AND ALL OF THE COUNTLESS MEMORIES. I FIND MYSELF AGAIN ASKING GOD WHY? BUT I KNOW HE HAS A PLAN AND WE'LL ALL BE TOGETHER AGAIN ONE DAY AND THAT HE IS UP THERE WITH HIS MOM, UNCLE PAUL, AND GRANDMA WATCHING OVER HIS CHILDREN, GRANDBABIES, AND ALL OF HIS FAMILY. I'M PROUD OF YOU BROTHER THAT YOU WERE MAKING THE RIGHT MOVES AND I'M SORRY THAT GOD CALLED YOU HOME SO SOON WHILE YOU WERE PUTTING IN THE WORK TO MAKE AMENDS TO THOSE WHO MATTER MOST AT THE END OF THE DAY TO YOU. I LOVE YOU AND WILL MISS YOU MY BEST FRIEND MARIO, MY BROTHER.

Mario was a little brother to me. A bunch of guys running a muck. He would always go on late night runs for Julie and I for another bottle of wine. Loved his kids and always a big ❤️.

Mario was a very charismatic friend of over 35 years. Mario is great at whatever he put his mind to. Everything he did he learned quickly and mastered it. I have very fond memories of doing many things together. Whether it was either riding bikes, riding skateboards or playing whatever sport he was always great. I have I have countless memories of sharing many memorable experiences with him. When I moved into the cabrillo neighborhood at the age of 8 he was one of my first friends that I met. We were both very competitive in spirit and that pushed our friendship forward as we would both feed off each other's energy which made us better as friends and competitors. We had our ups and downs over the years but always found our way back into friendship. I'll always appreciate the time we had and he will never be forgotten. Nick Marsh
