june 2, 2015 -- thinking of mom and the fond memories i have right now of her
right now memories
i reminiss of days gone by
that happened not long ago
a fun-loving mom and her youngest 3 kids
she tried to teach the tango!
oh how the laughter
ran thru the air
mom dancing light
just like fred astere.
then on to ball room dancin
1-2-3 1-2-3 1-2-3 turn
dancing around in circles
oh for reality i longingly yearn
teaching you the funky chicken
you taught the charleston, too
thanks for givin me these memories
never forget,... i love you!

Losing a parent is a very hard thing to go through. It doesn't matter what age you are. Our parents are a rock, an anchor to us and when they pass we feel like we've lost part of our foundation. We go to our parents for encouragement, uplifting, support and sometimes just to unload. Your mom was all these things to all of you and I am so sorry for your loss, though she really isn't gone. You will hear her in quiet moments, whispers of your heart, that little voice in your head that helps direct you during a difficult decision. She will always be there with you in your heart. Cherish the fun memories, the family laughs and good times, the fun vacations, the love she bestowed on each of you. Growing up in the "neighborhood" and remembering...I have a good sense of how she cared for you all. She gave her all and that's all we can ever hope for in a parent. May God give you peace during this difficult time....now for a personal memory. Your mom gave me some profound advice during JoAnn Borego's funeral. I was so upset that someone so young, so vibrant, so beautiful could just be gone in such a short few seconds. Even though this young girl wasn't close to me, I knew her fairly well through my brother because they were good friends. I cried and cried at that funeral when Mrs. Valent took me aside, put her arm around my shoulders and told me that God needed JoAnn in heaven and that's why he took her so young. Your mom gave me a measure of peace and something I've shared over and over to others during these times as well. I will always remember her kindness to me that day. God does all the choosing, He has the plans. God needed your mom now, her dry sense of humor, her wit and her love. We will all meet up again some day. My sympathy and hugs to you all. hugs Barbara Schild Melhus
