Obituary For Mary Ann Downey, RN BSN PHN MS
Mary Ann Downey passed away on July 29, 2023 in Fremont at the age of 84. She is survived by her husband Jim, her sons Mark and Shawn, her grandchildren Ian and Malaya, her stepsons Dan and Gary, her nieces Lois, Jan and Ann and her cousin Bill. She had many friends including Jan, Mary, Bev, Ellen, Mary Lou, Katherine, Jeanne and Louise.
Born February 21, 1939 in Marion, Indiana. Mary Ann was a lifelong nurse and healthcare professional with over 50 years of experience. She received her RN diploma from Ball State, her BSN from Holy Names College, her PHN from the State of California and her MS from Cal-State Hayward. Some of her more notable assignments include 20 years in the trenches as an admitting nurse, ER nurse and ICU nurse at Eden Hospital, now Sutter Health, Castro Valley and 22 years as a staff nurse and case manager, home health and home hospice, Kaiser Permanente, Union City.
To Mary Ann being a Registered Nurse was not just a job. It was her identity and she dedicated her life to helping the sick and injured.
