Obituary For Mary Lou Crosby
Mary Lou Crosby, 92, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026. Born on June 19, 1933, in Ozark, Arkansas, Mary Lou was raised there before moving to California after her marriage in 1950. She built a life centered on family, creativity, faith, and service to her community.
Mary was married to William “Bill” Crosby for nearly 65 years before his passing eleven years ago. Together, they built a large family and shared a lifetime of memories.
Mary devoted the early years of her life to raising her children and caring for her family. After her children were grown, she began working for the Newark Unified School District, first as a classroom aide and later as a librarian at James Graham Elementary School. She enjoyed working with students and staff and was known for her warm and welcoming presence.
In the Newark community, Mary Lou was affectionately known as the “Cake Lady of Newark.” She had a special talent for baking and decorating cakes for birthdays, weddings, and countless special occasions. Her creations became a cherished part of many family celebrations throughout the community.
Throughout her life, Mary was a devoted member of her church. She began attending Berean Baptist Church in 1969 and continued faithfully when the church later became Bay Area Baptist Church. She could always be counted on to lend a helping hand, especially with Vacation Bible School, church potlucks, and many other church activities. Her faith and willingness to serve others were an important part of her life.
Mary also enjoyed sewing, traveling, and most of all spending time with her family. Whether gathering for holidays, sharing meals, or celebrating milestones, she treasured every moment with those she loved.
She is survived by her children: Deborah Gardner, Virginia Haskins, Janell Crosby, Stephen Crosby, Teresa Scott, Martin Scott Crosby, Michael Crosby, and Gordon Vaughn Crosby.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Crosby, and by her daughter, Marilyn Gay Evetts.
Mary is also survived by ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom brought her great pride and joy.
Mary Lou’s legacy lives on through the many lives she touched and the family who will continue to carry her memory forward. She will be remembered for her love, creativity, faith, and the care she shared so generously with others.
She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by those who loved her.
