Mary Lou was born in Glen Burnie, MD, on May 14, 1947. Her father, David Arnold, was an executive at Westinghouse Corp., where her mother, Virginia Arnold, also worked. Brought up in in the suburbs of Baltimore, after her graduation, from the Glen Burnie High School, Mary Lou attended Marion College, in Marion VA, and then moved to Manhattan, NY, where she was a top photographer’s and fashion model for several years.

In June 1970, when she came to San Bernardino, CA for her elder brother, David’s wedding, she met Dilip, who was one of the ushers, where they connected. Three weeks’ later they were engaged and then got married at the Stanford Memorial Church in July.

Their son, Rajesh was born in 1973 and since then she devoted herself to raising him and helping him through the challenges he faced in his younger days because of their interracial marriage. For his school, Peninsula Children’s Center, she was an active volunteer and was on the Board of Peninsula Children’s Center Chartered Auxiliary. As a fund-raiser of the PCCCA she made significant contributions to fundraising during their annual Festival of Trees event celebrated during the Holiday season. For this she received the CA Governor’s commendation.

After residing in Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Atherton, and Los Altos Hills, the Sarafs moved to Fremont, CA, where she resided until her passing. Survivors include her husband, Dilip, of nearly 54 years, son Rajesh, and elder brother David Arnold, Jr. of New City, NY.

Mary Lou I am going to miss you very much. You gave me a lot of company and love and affection when I stayed with you when Mohan had to go to Japan. It was always nice. In a few days I will post pictures of us. Nothing is in our hands, God is almighty and we have to accept. Dilip and Raj have done a wonderful job for you, you are lucky.
