Obituary For Mary Nola Spence
Mary Nola Ohran Gallian Spence, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2014 at age 93 in Elk Grove, CA.
Mary was known for her warm, beautiful smile and her quick wits. She loved life, music, dancing, reading books, shouting out answers for Jeopardy, traveling abroad, and her flowers. Mary passed her passions on to her three daughters, Judy Gallian of Libby, MT, Barbara Guzman of Galt and Christina Kertel of Elk Grove.
Mary was born in McGill, Nevada while her parents slowly worked their way west from Utah to California in the 1920's. She was married to Robert B. Gallian of San Mateo for forty years. After his death, she married Robert H. Spence of Millbrae. They spent their final 26 years together happily sharing a love of family, travel, home projects and orchids.
Mary was the beloved matriarch of five generations. Along with her daughters, Judy, Barb and Chris, she is survived by grandchildren, Laurie Harris of Berkeley, David and Katie Harris of Libby, Montana, Ed and Anna Kertel of San Mateo, and Jason Kertel of Stockton and her step-children, Beverly Spence of San Jose, Richard Spence of Fremont, Roberta Ludwig of Washington. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Nicole, Tyler, Jenny, Jesse, Elias, and Nick and 2 great great-granddaughters Cyan and Nola Evelyn, her namesake.
