Obituary For Mattie M. Fuller

Mattie Mae McGee was the eldest of ten children born to Robert McGee and Alice McGee (Cooper) on January 24, 1929 in Greenwood, Mississippi.

As a single mother to Josie McGee, Peggy McArthur and George McArthur Jr., she settled in Monroe, Louisiana and worked picking cotton and later as a domestic. While in Louisiana she married Albert Lee Fuller Sr. and moved to Oakland, California in 1964. To that union, four children were born: Albert Fuller Jr., Sharon Fuller, Debra Fuller and Paula Fuller. In the 1970’s, Mattie worked for the Oakland Unified School District as an Instructional Assistant, a position from which she retired.

Mattie had a deep, abiding faith in God and was a member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Oakland, California for more than 40 years. In 1978, the family moved to Fremont, California, and after the passing of her beloved husband of 42 years in 2004, Mattie started attending the Hope Community Church in Fremont, CA. She instilled her deep abiding faith and trust in God to all of her children and grandchildren.

Mattie had a number of hobbies that she enjoyed including fashion, gardening, cake decorating, playing Monopoly, playing bingo at the Fremont Senior Center and walking around Lake Elizabeth in Fremont, CA. Mattie loved her garden where she cultivated many flowering plants, of which red roses were her favorite. Mattie will be remembered as a cherished daughter and sister, a loving wife and mother, a doting grandmother and great-grandmother, a friendly neighbor and a person who always had a ready smile and a kind word for everyone. Mattie was preceded in death by three of her children: Albert Fuller Jr., Sharon Fuller-Onadele and George McArthur Jr.

Mattie leaves to cherish her memory four daughters: Josie Manning, Peggy Green, Debra Ponder and Paula Fuller; three brothers: Otis McGee, George McGee and William McGee; two sisters, Willie McNeal and Gertie Johnson; grandchildren: LaShelle Manning, Frederick Manning Jr., Tuurischeva Green, Knecaya Green, Alice McArthur, Mattie McArthur, George McArthur III., Babatunde Onadele Jr., Abiola Onadele and Jalen Ponder; great-grandchildren: Patrick Manning, Khajaana Williams, Solomon Onadele and Corrine Onadele and a host of other great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins throughout the United States.

I am praying for the Fuller family who is grieving the loss of Big Momma. I remember seeing her and the brightest, welcoming smile. I remember a strong woman who was still hopping fences in her late years! I have been blessed by her because as the matriarch of a generous and loving family she is the one that instilled that in you all. I thank and magnify The Most High for the life that I only got a glimpse of but know that it was a life well lived through faith in Yeshua Ha’Mashiach and the abiding love of our Abba in heaven. My prayers and condolences are with the family.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a part of your journey by preparing your yam and chicken every Thursday. Although we only met a few times, yet I felt comfortable with you and I felt the maternal love you showed. You will surely be missed.

On April 21, 2021 Heaven gained another angel and God called my grandmother, one of His faithful servants home :skin-tone-5: Words can’t describe the feelings of this loss, but I can’t thank God enough for blessing my family and I with this amazing beautiful soul. 92 years of life, the oldest of 10 and mother of 7, none of us would be where we are without you Big Mommy! it hurts that I won’t hear your laugh anymore or say “money!” And smile when taking a picture with you or see you do your happy dances, watching you roll up your hair with curlers every night or hear you address and know your children and grandchildren by their exact number as they entered your life (you cared that much!). I’m grateful for the time we spent together and the summers I got sent off to your house to get straight  I’ll miss you so much, but I’ll continue to try and rest in the fact that your in heaven with Big Daddy, My Mom, Uncle Albert, and so many more loved ones.:skin-tone-5: thank you for all the lessons taught and memories made, you will forever be in my heart! I know you’re smiling down with God and I can only hope to make you and Mom proud and live this life continuing your legacy and being half of the women you were! 🤞:skin-tone-5:Rest In Love Mattie Mae Fuller :purple_heart: I love you forever and always.
