Obituary For Michael Anthony Tomkunas

Entered into rest on July 19, 2012 in Roseville at the age of 59. Devoted husband of 24 years to Lynn Tomkunas of Fremont. Beloved father of Joseph Tomkunas of Fremont. Cherished brother of Sue Ellen Cooper-Jones and her husband Mike of England, and Patricia Mercuri of North Bergen, NJ. Treasured uncle of Julian, Alex, Adam, Matthew, Josh, Sarah, Julia, and Olivia. Dear brother-in-law of Kathy Lewinsky and her husband Ken of Fremont, Ken Montgomery and his wife Maristher of Fremont, and Karen Swanson and her husband Paul of Bristol, WI. Loving son to Mary Tomkunas of NJ.

Mike was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ where he attended Hudson Catholic High School. He worked in New York City and the World Trade Center for many years. He married Lynn in 1988 and in 1991 moved to California, where he has lived since. He graduated from Heald College with an Associate of Science degree. Anyone who knew him could tell you how smart and funny and caring he was. Mike was a man of science and loved technology. He loved to find out how things were made and what made them run. He loved NASCAR racing and NHL hockey. But what brought Mike the most joy was spending time with his family, especially with his son Joey and his wife Lynn. Mike died suddenly of a heart attack and there was no time to say goodbye. But on the next clear night when you can see the stars, look out into the vast universe and think of Mike.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 28, from 11am-1pm followed by a chapel service at 1pm, all at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536.

Donations may be made in memory of Michael to the American Heart Association, PO Box 742030, Los Angeles, CA 90074-2030.
