Obituary For Norene Jung Sun

Norene Sun passed away at home unexpectedly on May 8, 2014. She is survived by her husband Bruce Prickett, and her sons Anthony and Timothy. She is also survived by her sisters Irene Hacker and Pauline Tsang of Newark, CA, her niece Helene Lee of San Jose, CA, and many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Jung On Sun and Ivy Fung Chin, her sister Elaine, and her brother Gaiman.

Norene met Bruce while taking fencing lessons in Berkeley, and they renewed their acquaintance at the 1978 Junior Olympics in Houston. After completing her A.A. degree at Merritt College, Norene worked at BART as an electronic technician in the Hayward and Richmond yards. She moved on to the study of Aikido, earning her black belt at Aikido of San Leandro. Norene and Bruce married in 1989, moving into a house on Porter Street the day of the Loma Prieta earthquake. They spent several years working, traveling, snorkeling for abalone, tandem bicycling, and having fun at the beach. Norene learned to do machine knitting during this period, making Bruce half a dozen beautiful sweaters.

After retiring from BART, moving to the Kimber area and giving birth to Anthony, Norene joined the F.U.N. Toastmasters club where she was active for several years. She was a board member of the Fremont Parents’ Nursery School and volunteered at Gomes School. She served as president and as program chair for the Machine Knitters Guild of the San Francisco Bay Area. She also took up sailing with Bruce, racing at Lake Elizabeth with the Fremont Sailing Club and recently joining the Sequoia Yacht Club.

Norene was a beloved wife, mother, sister and aunt, and will be missed by many friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 28, from 4-6pm and a Memorial Service will begin at 6pm, all at St. James Episcopal Church, 37051 Cabrillo Terr., Fremont, CA 94536. A reception will follow. Donations may be made to the Tri-City Volunteers, 37350 Joseph St., Fremont, CA 94536.

Bruce, Anthony and Timothy, When Noreen joined the family, she did so completely. She came to every family function whether that be a single visiting family member or attending a family reunion. She was always involved in conversation or helping to prepare meals. All the time she brought her lovely smile and compassionate heart. Her presence will be missed. Thank goodness her spirit will live on in the three of you. Our love goes to each of you during this very difficult time. Please feel welcome to reach out to us if there is something we can do for you. Stephen and Annette

Norene was an amazing person. As a loyal member of CHADD, she was devoted to her family and always had her sons' best interest at heart. She was a fountain of resources and offered many supportive suggestions for organizing meetings and finding speakers. She was also a wonderful friend who was always willing to listen with an open heart when the going got tough. She will be missed by all! My heart goes out to her family. Shari Gent
