Obituary For Paul Lopez Sanchez
The early morning of February 15, 2020, Paul Lopez Sanchez of Fremont CA passed away at the age of 92 in his home. Paul was born to Epifanio and Maria Sanchez in December 23, 1927. He is survived by his beloved wife Margareta Bosl Sanchez; three daughters Josephine Howe, Theresa Gardner and Christine Sanchez-Blizinski, grand children: Benjamin and Pricilla Reed, James and Jessica Gardner.
Paul left his home town of Madera, CA and found employment at Continental Can Corp in Oakland CA as a Punch Press Operator in his early twenties.
While employed at Continental Can he was inducted into the Army on November 4, 1952. He was stationed in Korea as a Member of Company A, 17th Infantry. On July 6, 1953, Corporal Sanchez was engaged an intense fire fight with numerically superior enemy force which had completely surround his position near Sokkagae, Korea (aka Pork Chop Hill). Though wounded himself with Mortar fragment he held back the enemy with his weapon and hand grenades until help arrived and the friendly casualties were evacuated. He was awarded the Silver Star for his gallantry.
Paul continued in the Military and found himself stationed abroad in Germany. During his stay he met his wife Margareta Bosl. They were married and gave birth to their Son, Paul Joseph in Germany. (Paul Jr. passed away on March 13, 2013). Paul was discharged honorably on December 3, 1956 and return to Continental Can Corp until it closed. He also worked and Golden Grain Macaroni and Ghirardelli Chocolates company in San Leandro until he retired at age 65.
Paul and his wife moved to Fremont eventually and settled in their home for over 60 years. He kept their home well maintained and planted orange, lemon, pear and apple trees in the backyard. During this time the family enjoyed the company of their wonderful neighbors, went to baseball games at Candlestick Park, barbecued with close friends. Paul enjoyed running and riding his bike around Lake Elizabeth, cooking beside his wife to make delicious Mexican meals. The couple worked together when it came to Thanksgiving, they were up early in the morning preparing for the big meal! They also enjoyed dancing at Swiss Park. They were quite the pair!
Paul will be missed by his wife, children and neighbors but will always be in our thoughts and dreams.
May he rest in peace with the Lord and his son Paul, Jr.
Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020, 11 AM, at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Boulevard, Fremont. Paul will Rest In Peace at Irvington Memorial Cemetery.
