Peter (Dutch) A. Young, Jr., 87, originally of New Orleans, LA, died peacefully at his home in Hayward, CA on September 28, 2016. Peter's childhood years were spent in New Orleans with his parents, Peter A. and Josephine Young, Sr., and sister, Marilyn Rogers. He was a graduate of Tulane University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Shortly after graduating, Peter married Gladys O’Donnell (New Orleans, LA) and had five daughters and two sons, Sandra (Tim), Deborah (Ed), Pamela, Linda (Dirk), Stephen (Marisela), Cynthia, and Christopher, along with five grandchildren (Becky, Allison, Megan, Nate, Amy) and two nieces (Marilyn, Erin).

Peter worked for over 30 years as a professional engineer for Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation. He and his family lived in several states before finally settling in California. Peter loved his work, but above all, he loved his family. He was ever the engineer and constructed several play structures for his children.

A faithful Christian, Peter was very active in the churches he attended throughout his life. He taught classes, performed maintenance around the church grounds, and was a devoted participant in bible study. He was a charter member of Christ Community Church, East Jefferson Parish, LA. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

Well-loved by many, Peter is survived by his family and by many friends throughout the country. A private family service is planned for October 5. In lieu of flowers, Peter’s family is encouraging friends and family to make a donation to a non-profit organization or suitable Christian charity of their choice.
