Obituary For Ramon Iñiguez

Ramon was born on September 10, 1933 and passed on November 12, 2020 at 87 years of age. Ramon is predeceased by his parents, Luis and Remedios Iniguez of Tepatitlan, Jalisco, his grandmother whom he adored, Maria Oropeza of Chihuahua, and his older brother Rafael of Blythe, California. Loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather, Ramon is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucy Garcia along with his seven children, Ramon Jr., Delia (Amado) Barajas, Christina (Jose) Flores, Gilbert, David, Daniel and Louis (Kimberly) Iniguez. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and his younger brothers of Guadalajara and Tepatitlan, Jalisco, Mexico. Ramon was born in Jerome, Arizona. In his early years, he grew up in El Valle de Guadalupe and Tepatiltan, Jalisco. Ramon later returned to the United States as a young adult. He lived and worked in California where he met his lifetime partner, Lucy from Niles, California and they were married in the early 1950’s. Ramon and Lucy moved to Indiana in the late 1950’s when he was offered a stable job opportunity in the Midwest where the American steel industry was thriving. He made Gary/East Chicago, Indiana his home and worked at Inland Steel as a railroad switchman for 22 years. He took annual, summer family trips driving cross country to California and Mexico to visit grandparents and relatives. The trips to Mexico were important as he wanted his children to learn the traditional Mexican culture and language. Ramon and his family lived in the Midwest until the early 1980’s, then returned to live in Fremont, CA. Ramon retired from his second career job as a groundskeeper at the Pinnacles National Park after 10 years. He loved nature and the outdoors, and his job at the Pinnacles was the perfect way to end his working career. In the 1980’s, he also built his dream retirement home on the hillside of Tepatilan, Jalisco. He took family and friends regularly to entertain and vacation. He was very proud of the home that he and his eldest brother Rafael designed and had built from the ground up! He and Lucy spent many summers at their beautiful home in “Tepa”. Ramon “Ray”, was a quiet and simple man who loved reading the newspaper each morning with a cup of coffee. He liked driving his red, Ford F-150 truck, sporting his personalized license plate “Iniguez 1”. Barbequing in the comfort of his backyard and spending time with his 7 kids and grandchildren provided him tranquility. He was an avid boxing fan, tuning in regularly to watch Mexican boxing matches, he was also fond of old, classic John Wayne western movies, Chicago Cubs baseball games, Sunday Bears football, and listening to his favorite Ranchera and Mariachi, Vicente Fernandez music. The song “El Corrido de los Perez” was always on his playlist, a telling story about his family history from the early 1900’s. As an aficionado of fine tequilas and Mexican brandy, Ramon always looked forward to family gatherings and holidays to share his finest reserves with those closest to him. Rest in peace dear father, Ramon, we love you eternally and you’ll be forever in our hearts. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, from 5: 30 to 7:30 PM, with a Rosary at 6:30 PM, Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Boulevard, Fremont. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, December 3, 2020, at 12:30 PM, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, 41933 Blacow Road, Fremont, burial to follow at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park, Hayward.

Thank you Eda and Rudy for your condolences and support during this difficult time. You bring up a good point on my dad being one of the first Latinos to work at the pinnacles, will have to look into that. Hugs, Christina

Our deepest Condolences to Lucy and her sons and daughters. A beautiful life, a long life and a complete life. One of my favorite hikes is at the Pinnacles Natinal Park, what a fulfilling job.... he may have been one of the first latinos working there. May he rest in peace and protect his family from the heavens.
