Obituary For Richard Allen Gettle

Born on June 7th, 1931 in California, and entered into rest on November 25th, 2015 in Hayward, California at the age of 84.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated for Richard on Thursday, December 3rd, 10am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 264 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo, CA 94580.

    Rick Gettle died peacefully in St. Rose Hospital on November 25th, 2015 in Hayward at the age of 84. Rick was born on June 7th, 1931 in San Francisco to Laurie and Bob Gettle and was loved by his children: Ronnie, Terry, and Holly; his grandchildren: Lisa, Bridget, Elliott, Christopher; and his great grandchildren: Donavan, Ruby, Lisette, Elias and Valentino. Rick was especially loved by his sweetheart and life partner, Pat. Rick grew up in San Francisco’s Mission District and spent time in Saint Vincent’s Boys Home. He joined the Army at 15 and traveled the world. Rick always liked to say he graduated with a PHD from The School of Hard Knocks. Throughout his life Rick was a firefighter, cab driver, entrepreneur, consultant, publisher, author, songwriter, teacher, father, grandfather, great grand-father and friend. His family will always remember him as a kind, patient, and driven man who encouraged them to always set goals, pursue their dreams, and to have a definite major purpose. A celebration of Rick's life is scheduled for 10am on Thursday, December 3rd, 2015 at St. Johns Catholic Church in San Lorenzo, with a reception to follow at the home of Lisa and Ricky Salazar in San Lorenzo. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Rick’s life.
