Obituary For Richard E. Piper

Richard E. Piper, of Newark, passed away on June 30 at the age of 92. He is survived by daughters; Stacey Piper, Rebecca (Becky) Galloway, Deborah (Debbie) Piper-Salcedo, and Rachel Piper-Frisina, 8 grandchildren, and 10 great- grandchildren. Predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Ina Sue Piper.

Richard was a proud to have been born and raised in San Francisco, California. He was born during the Depression and loved telling stories of growing up in the City. He served in the Navy during the Korean War as a signal man. Richard was a lithographer for over 50 years. He turned his work into a passion and purchased his own printing shop. He often told stories of having to read backwards as this is how the letters needed to be set for printing. After he retired, he worked as a bus driver for Fremont Unified School District for several years. He enjoyed helping the students reach their destinations safely. He, also, enjoyed the friendships with his fellow bus drivers. Once he retired from bus driving, he would volunteer at the Hornet in Alameda, Newark Senior Center, Newark Police Department and Fremont Court House. Richard was a lifelong and founding member of Elks Lodge 2121 where he served in the positions of secretary, treasurer and Exalted Ruler. He loved spending time with his family.

Richard will be remembered for his love of goofy dad jokes, the love he had for family, and for being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
