Obituary For Richard Hernandez Rubio

Richard Hernandez Rubio, 87, of Fremont, California passed away on June 8, 2021 in his home surrounded by his wife and three children. Richard left this stage of life after a long courageous battle with complications from Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born on February 7, 1934 to the late Juan Castaneda Rubio and Frances Hernandez Rubio in Madera, California. Richard was a proud member of the Armed Forces where he played baseball and basketball for the Army. He was a supervisor at United Technologies, Chemical Systems Division in Morgan Hill, California retiring after 34 years of service in 1992. He was an avid fan of sports which dates back to his early years of lettering in baseball, basketball and track for Madera High School before going on to play baseball and basketball for the College of the Sequoias before being scouted by a New York Yankees scout to play in the minor leagues where he played for the Moosejaw Mallards from 1955 to 1956, the McAlester Rockets and Modesto Reds in 1956, the Las Vegas Wranglers in 1957, the Fargo-Moorhead Twins in 1958 and the Auburn Yankees in 1958. Richard loved his family and his life and never missed an opportunity to state as much.

Richard leaves behind and is survived by a loving wife of 49 years, Charlotte Rubio, and three children: Kristina Rubio (Ken Donovan) of San Jose, California, Karen Rubio (Shane Monk) of Fremont, California and Wolf Scott (Roberta) Von Pankow of Palo Alto, California. Richard is also survived by two cherished grandchildren, Julian and Madison Von Pankow and his sister, Paula Wolcott of Northridge, California. He is predeceased by his brothers, Manual and Salvador Rubio, and his sisters, Jennie Rubio, Mary Crandall, Frances Chapa, Beatrice Hernandez, Carmen Reyna and Anastasia Rubio.

Services will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish located at 41933 Blacow Road, Fremont, California 94538 with a visitation at 10:00 am, funeral mass at 11:00am and internment to follow at Irvington Memorial Cemetery located at 41001 Chapel Way, Fremont, California 94538.
