Obituary For Richard Keith Lachenmyer

Richard “Dick” Lachenmyer passed away peacefully on February 12, 2016 in Fremont, CA after a long battle with Lung Cancer. Richard is survived by Sharyn Lana Lachenmyer his beloved wife of almost 30 years. His daughters Catherine Vera Lachenmyer and Candace Reene Rauch, son Keith Edwin Lachenmyer, Grandsons Michael Dale Rauch, David Allen Schwobe, Stephen Joshua Abatecola and Granddaughter Ambur Nikole Kramer. He was preceded in death by his parents John J. Lachenmyer, Jr and Charlotte J. Scearce Lachenmyer, brother John William Lachenmyer, son Mark Keith Lachenmyer, daughter Angela Shuree Kramer and Grandson Andrew Lee Rauch.

Richard was born in Manteca, CA, raised in Dunsmuir, CA and moved to Fremont, CA in 1968. Richard graduated from Armstrong Business College in Berkeley with a major in business and minor in interior design. He began his career with Sonoco Products in 1964 first in the City of Industry, CA before transferring 4 years later to the Hayward, CA Office. Richard retired from Sonoco after 30-years of service as Sales Manager. Always a highlight was the annual trip to the corporate office in Hartsville, SC. He fit right into the South and their southern hospitality. Richard “unretired” 1-year later to begin working at the Lam Research Cafeteria. Richard became the Head Cashier and with his charm, sense of humor and bright smile was well liked and very popular. He reluctantly had to stop working due to complications after fracturing his leg in 2015.

Richard loved his family, tending to his rose garden and planting perennials each spring both at home and at his second home in Aptos, CA. Richard enjoyed most weekends spending time in Aptos, Capitola and Santa Cruz. He could be found most weekend evenings on the deck enjoying a cup of coffee looking out at the ocean.

We look at the people you touched and the memories you have left behind. We think you made more of an impact on more people than you could possibly have imagined, you are still with us and continue to inspire us every day.

On Thursday, February 18, 2016 there will be a viewing from 5-8 pm at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Richard will be laid to rest on Friday, February 19, 2016 at 11am at Santa Cruz Memorial Park, 1927 Ocean St., Santa Cruz, CA 95060. I worked with Richard for several years at the café inside Lam Research and I was really sad to hear about his passing, and to be honest, shocked. He was always such a happy man, regardless of what was going on. I'll always remember our cookie wrapping contests that we had and how I would have to rewrap the cookies sometimes because he would wrap them while they were still warm. (Oh, Richard!) And my favorite would be seeing one cookie missing from the cookie sheet.. .hmm wonder where that cookie went! It's the little things. My condolences go out to his family, but I think it is safe to say he lived a great life and is in a better place now. You will be missed, Richard. Rest in peace <3 Love, Jackie

Richard I am going to miss you. I worked with you for 20 years at Lam Research. You were always so positive and happy when we would see each other at work. You brought us so much joy and happiness to us. I hope there is lots of yummy raw chocolate chip cookie dough for you to eat in heaven. I know how you love that stuff! Love Angela Hartman

Cathy, You know how much we loved your dad! He was a very special person! Loved his sense of humor and kind and gentle personality! I will forever remember him competing with Annette on who had the better roses in their garden! My heart-felt condolences on your loss. I know you will miss him greatly! We know he is in a better place and waiting to greet us! Much love, Shari Segon

Cathy, I remember that whenever we went to Uncle Dick's he would always give us candy. Usually those butterscotch hard candies, and I could always count on him being funny and laughing! We are thinking of you and are sending our love! Love, Colum and Jackie

My memories are chats, discussions, talks with Cathy over the (many . . . okay, many, many) years and the little stories and tidbits about her dad she shared with me. From these stories I learned who he was and why he is so loved. Cathy and I have a special connection as we both are fortunate, lucky, favored, blessed right from the start because of the fathers we won in the lotto of life. From our chats, it's been very obvious to me how fortunate, lucky, favored, blessed Cathy is because her father is Richard Keith Lachenmyer. They really enjoyed each other. Immensely. And the stories which taught me this make me smile every time. She is his princess. He is . . . well, he is her daddy whose charm, sense of humour, love and enjoyment of life and people was a special gift to many and will be remembered. I will remember Cathy's daddy when I think of my own, and that is very often.

I first met Dick in 1981 when I went to work for Sonoco. We were both in sales and had many opportunities to work together over the years. I have great memories of sales trips and meetings where Dick was always entertaining and so full of life. A joker and mischievous at times as well, we became good friends. When I was assigned to the Bay Area, I was living in So Cal. Dick graciously invited my sons to stay at his home with his son Keith while he and I visited customers. A huge blessing as I was a single mom and child care would have been very difficult to arrange. I was so happy for Dick when he met and married Sharyn. What a great couple! We stayed in touch, even after he retired from Sonoco. I loved meeting with Dick and Sharyn and enjoying dinner with them when I traveled to the Bay Area. Dick was loved by his customers and coworkers alike. His greatest joy was always his family, and I am blessed to know this wonderful family! My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love, Kathy Walker
