He was Scout Master of the blind troop in Fremont and the Touch of Gold Award was presented to him on May 10, 2008, for his outstanding service and leadership in scouting for youth with special needs and disabilities. Bob was a proud member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and received the Elk of the Month and Elk of the Year awards. He also enjoyed bartending at the lodge. He volunteered at Kaiser Permanente in Fremont after retiring from Leslie Salt after 35 years of employment.
