Obituary For Robert Joseph Dutra

Born September 10, 1938 in Oakland, CA and entered into rest on April 30, 2013 in Fremont, CA at the age of 74.

Throughout his entire life, Bob was always an extremely lively person. He never let anything hold him back, and there was never anything he set his mind to that he didn?t accomplish. He had many passions in life, which included dirt biking, flat track racing, rebuilding cars, hunting and fishing, wood work, motorcycles, and music. Some of his most memorable times of his younger years were when he played piano in a band. His love of music stayed with him forever. He was also very accomplished at making and flying airplanes. His garage was his work space where he would spend hours on them, intricately designing and building them from the ground up. He was very active in the sport of flying his airplanes as well. He spent many years flying at the airfield in Newark and later Union City along side the other members of the club he belonged to: The Southern Alameda County Radio Controller?s Club, also known as the SacRats. He won dozens of awards throughout the years which lined the walls from top to bottom of his garage. Bob was also an accomplished scuba diver and loved to water ski. He was always humoring his family with his creative and clever photo editing. One of his hobbies which brought him much joy his entire life was cooking. He had so much fun experimenting with different food and enjoyed always cooking and BBQing for his family and friends. Preparing food was his day-to-day way of showing his love for the ones he cared about. He also took great pride in maintaining his yard and garden at home which included tomatoes, avocadoes, lemons, zucchini, squash, lemon cucumbers, and the best plums one has ever tasted. Not only did his caring, warm, and nurturing touch shine through to his loved ones, but it also revealed itself with animals. He would always come home to his wife Madeline with an out-of the-ordinary pet, from a squirrel, to a hawk, a turtle, a billy goat, and a pot bellied pig which turned out to be a wild boar, along with his favorite dogs. Bob was fortunate enough to have loved the work that he did in his career, from driving his own Peterbilt truck to owning his own bar, Bobby D?s Bearcat. He never failed to be the life of the party and would lighten the room with his quick wit and humor. You couldn?t help but have a good time in his presence. He was a jack of all trades, and a man of many talents. He was a man that you could count on for the truth, and his word was as good as gold. Anything he said he would do, you could count on. His legacy will continue on endlessly through his wife, daughter, four grandchildren, and friends, whom he found such gratification in passing his knowledge and many life lessons to. Our love for him is boundless and our memories are timeless. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to be involved in his incredible life.

Beloved husband of 49 years to Madeline Dutra of Fremont. Devoted father to Dana Lynn Dutra of Manteca. Loving grandfather to Sierra, Robert, Jacqueline, and Nicholas. Preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Genevieve Dutra.

A Memorial Service will be held for Bob on Friday, May 17, 11am at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536.
