Obituaries

Born and lived in Newark her entire life. She lived in her home for 72 years. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Raymond L. Bernardo. She worked for the Newark School District and was a stay-at-home Mom for many years.

She is survived by her 3 children: LeRoy Bernardo of Manteca, Carol Davis and Eugene of Castro Valley, and Shirley Martin and Hank of Redding. She has 5 grandchildren: Cynthia Jones, Dawn Oliver, Dena Barbier, Deawn Weiher, and Raelean Godfrey. She has 11 great-grandchildren: Jessica Galindo, Nicole Dias, Shelby Oliver, Sarah Davis, Jaklyn Jones, Robert Godfrey, Mathew Godfrey, Brooke Barbier, Brett Barbier, Daniel Godfrey, and Jorden Weiher. Recently she was blessed with 2 great-great grandchildren: Carson Galindo, and Sofia Grobbel.

The family remembers all of the wonderful times they spent at Mom and Dad's home for the holidays and other occasions. Mom and Dad had a wonderful life together; square dancing, bowling, camping, and traveling all over the United States in their motor home.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 7, from 5-8pm with a vigil at 7pm at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 8, 10:30am at St. Edward's Catholic Church, 5788 Thornton Ave., Newark, CA 94560. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, CA.
