Rose Champion passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on November 26th at the age of 96, after recently suffering a heart attack. Pre-deceased by her husband, Robert Champion, she is survived by her children Elizabeth Champion, Richard Champion, Nathan Champion, Leonard Champion, Allan Champion, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Rose was the last surviving and youngest of eight children born to Stanik and Elizabeth Dugi in Kosciusko Texas on August 30, 1923. Raised on a farm and deeply religious; she lived life by the lessons taught by her parents and church. Rose was very hard-working, caring for her invalid mother and running the family farm on her own for nine years. Upon her mother’s death, she followed some of her siblings and moved away from the farm and began life on her own; working in several bakeries making pies and pastries in Corpus Christi Texas. There she met her husband Robert and they were married on August 30, 1952. Rose was a devoted wife and mother who ignored her own needs and placed her family at top of her list. In 1958, following a job transfer, Robert, Rose and their three oldest children moved to California; eventually settling in Fremont. They had two more children and raised them all in same house that she continued to reside in until her passing. Rose was an accomplished homemaker; forever baking, cooking and sewing to keep her family very well cared for. Throughout her life she frequently volunteered at church and enjoyed the company of neighborhood friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, December 13, 2019 with a Rosary Service at 6:30 PM at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 41933 Blacow Road, Fremont. Burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 26320 Mission Boulevard, Hayward.
