Obituary For Sarah S. Maya

Sarah Suzanne Dodd Maya went to be with her Savior early Sunday morning, June 16, 2024. She was born to Michael and Suzanne Dodd on October 29,1971 in Sacramento. She was raised in Sacramento where she attended All Hallows Catholic school and in 1983 the family moved to Fremont.

On April 28, 1986, she met the love of her life, Rick Maya. Together, they attended Moreau Catholic High School, graduating in 1990. Sarah graduated from CSU Hayward and married Rick on July 13, 1996.

In 2000, they moved to Clovis, CA, bought their first home, and welcomed their first child into their family. This began their greatest adventure, raising four beautiful children together. Sarah and Rick settled in El Dorado Hills in 2003, where they formed a community of loving friends, rooted in their Catholic Church and, of course, baseball.

Besides her Catholic faith and family, Sarah loved flowers, babies, her home, watching her kids play sports, watching the Golden Girls and listening to Dolly. Sarah passionately supported the rights of the unborn and centered her life around the Eucharist. She had many loving groups of women who surrounded her with love and support. Sarah loved them all.

Sarah had an amazing gift of writing inspirational prayers for friends, hosting delicious large family dinners, and a witty sense of humor. Her eyes said it all.

Lovingly, Sarah is survived by her husband Rick of 28 years, her four children, her mother, sister, her in-laws, nieces and nephews as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins. She cherished her relationships with others throughout her cancer journey. She was a champion of faith in the most difficult of circumstances and considered others’ needs before her own. She faced her illness with courage, faith, and dignity, all for the love of her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking donations be made to the family for Sarah's four children to go towards their education. Donations can be made via Venmo to her husband Rick @Rick-Maya or by check made out to Rick Maya. Please mail the check to: Fremont Chapel of the Roses, Attention Maya Family, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536.

Feel free to dress in a colorful sundress or shirt for the Celebration of Life on Friday evening. Let us brighten the space up the same way Sarah brightened all our lives.

I knew Sarah briefly, but deeply admired her courage and selflessness in the face of cancer. She radiated with love whenever I was around her. To her children - you all are a clear legacy of her love. Condolences to you all from Tanya and Isaac.
