Obituary For Sharon Vera Lachenmyer

Sharon Vera Lachenmyer passed away on May 25, 2021 in Union City, CA after enduring many health challenges. Sharon is survived by daughter Catherine Vera Lachenmyer and honorary daughter Candace Reene Rauch; son Keith Edwin Lachenmyer and many honorary grandchildren who affectionately called her Nana Sharon. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Sylvia Cohen DeLong; brother, Lawrence DeLong; son, Mark Keith Lachenmyer and her beloved significant other, Henry. Sharon was born in Oakland, CA on February 23, 1939 and raised in San Lorenzo, CA. She moved to Fremont, CA in 1968. Sharon worked for Emporium Capwell in the China and Housewares Department at the Fremont Store and later in the Clearance Center in Oakland, CA. She worked briefly at Sears and Wal-Mart. In 1982, she moved to the Tropics Mobile Home Park in Union City where she enjoyed many friendships through the various clubs, weekly BINGO, and bus trips to the various casinos. She loved to read, and her library card was well used and at the first of the month when she was “rich” she would order books from a local Hayward bookstore. All the reading helped her respond to the nightly Jeopardy questions. She was a Job’s Daughter and Eastern Star. She was a member of the Jane Austen Society Club and enjoyed attending monthly lectures to discuss the books. She enjoyed doing genealogy and her membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She loved to sew, complete crafts, crochet and knit, which she was usually doing while cheering on her favorite baseball team, the Oakland A’s. Sharon gave up driving in 1984 and relied on public transportation. The drivers became part of her extended family, as she knew their names and all about their families. Later when Sharon began dialysis and was transported by ambulance, she took them in as extended family too. Nana Sharon, we think of the happy way in which you moved through life and the joy you brought to many people with your floral hats, always seeing the world and people through rose-colored glasses. We think you made an impact on more people than you could possibly have imagined. You are still with us and continue to inspire us every day.

Cathy, the pictures shared, of your beloved mom, are wonderful. I will always remember how she liked to wear her beautiful hats. You were an amazing daughter to your sweet mother. She was so lucky to have you in her life. She is still with you and will always be by your side. Sending my heartfelt love to you, my friend. Sharon
