Obituary For Susan McLachlan Meyer

Susan’s courageous ten month battle with Leukemia has ended and she is at peace, and free from the confines of this earthly life.

Born and raised in Connecticut by Robert McLachlan and the late Rose Krueger McLachlan, Susan, at the age of eighteen, relocated to the Bay Area. Having worked with special needs individuals since her early teens, Susan began a professional career in the field which spanned thirty-five years. Beginning as a Psych Tech at Agnews Developmental Center, she eventually rose to a position of Licensing Program Manager at the California Dept. of Social Services. Susan remained dedicated to her work throughout her life, in spite of living with Multiple Sclerosis since her early twenties.

Susan enjoyed country music, trips to Reno, fine dining and reading but her biggest devotion was to her cats, Teddy Bear and Huckleberry. Her sense of humor, outspokenness and determined spirit was admired and enjoyed by all who knew her.

Susan was predeceased by husband Frank Meyer. Survivors include sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Bill Coolahan, nephew Bill Coolahan; sister Heather McLachlan and nieces Hayley Moore and Gianna Frouge; stepdaughter Lori Meyer, grandson Bryan Broussard, great grandchildren Kennedy, Bailey and Izak Broussard; and countless cherished friends.

Susan will be greatly missed, and her remarkably strong spirit will continue to be an inspiration to all of us.

A Mass of Celebration of Susan’s life will be held Saturday, July 11 at 11:00 AM at Mission San Jose, 43300 Mission Blvd., Fremont. The gathering will be held in the Mission, not at St. Joseph’s Church building.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you to consider a donation to the MS Society or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

.Susan, your entire adult life was an example of indomitable courage as you persevered in both your professional and personal life in spite of illness and other obstacles. Tragically, the final battle was not to be won and the war was over on July 3rd. It was very frustrating for me to be unable to be there but you will be in my heart as long as it beats. Love you forever. Robert McLachlan (Dad)
