Teryl Dee Wakeman (Terry) was born on July 11, 1940 in Klamath Falls, Oregon and passed away on March 9, 2018 at Stanford Medical Center in Palo Alto, California. His parents moved the family to Crescent City in 1946. He attended local schools and took up flying at the age of 16 years. He eventually earned his private pilot’s license with an instrument rating. He graduated from Humboldt State University in 1963 with a degree in Radio and Television. After college he joined the Navy and served as a naval flight officer until 1968. In 1967 he met and married Genevieve Mitsopoulos , a Navy nurse. After the Navy he became a real estate broker in San Diego. He also obtained his general contractors license. In 1980 the family moved up to Crescent City and took over operation of the Ocean Way Motel from his parents for the following 17 years. He also became a cattle rancher along with his brother. He was an avid train enthusiast and enjoyed western movies. He was baptized into the Lutheran Church as a young man. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Lenora Wakeman. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve, sons, Teryl, II and William Wakeman, daughter, Joanna Mather, three grandchildren, Collin and Lee Mather, and Roscoe Woodman-Wakeman, brother, Dr. Roger Wakeman, sister- in- law, Margaret Wakeman, brother-in-law, Pete Mitsopoulos, two nephews, Kyle and Kevin Wakeman, niece, Angela Wakeman, and godson, Alex Mitsopoulos. Terry always loved and enjoyed the children in his life. Arrangments are under the direction of Fremont Chapel of the Roses in Fremont, and Wier’s Mortuary in Crescent City. Viewing will be held from 10 AM to 5 PM at Wier’s Mortuary on Friday, March 23, 2018. Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church at 1PM on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Interment will be at the Eagle Point National Cemetery in Oregon.
