Obituary For Ursula Jensen Provol
Ursula Jensen Provol a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2014 after courageously battling lung cancer.
Born in 1944, in Germany, on the small island of Föhr located in the North Sea, Ursula shared her childhood with beloved sister Christa Petersen and brother, Johannes Jensen. Her adventurous spirit took her to New York at the age of 18, where she worked as an au pair taking care of five energetic children for a German family in Scarsdale, NY. As an adult, Ursula enjoyed being with her family, gardening, reading, watching sports (especially football), and was an avid fitness fan. She deeply enjoyed cycling, hiking, weight lifting, and beach combing. She always loved being near the ocean, and searching for shells and rocks was a favorite hobby.
She lovingly raised her family in Indianapolis, Indiana. She worked as a fitness instructor at the YMCA, and later worked at St. Vincent’s Hospital as a counselor, providing support to adults with addiction issues and helped many individuals find sobriety along the way. While in Indianapolis, she met the love of her life, George Provol, and they married on October 10, 1988 and were inseparable for nearly 40 years. Always embracing change, she and George explored life in several states, including Grant Park, IL where she was a volunteer EMT and fire fighter. While in Grant Park, her love for animals led her to organize an animal shelter in Kankakee, and she actively placed numerous animals in loving homes.. From Illinois, she moved to Texas for a few years and then braved cold winters in Apple Valley, Minnesota. Most recently she retired to Levittown, PA. Ursula had a contagious smile and a magnetic personality and will always be known as a kindhearted, warm, strong, and insightful woman.
Ursula was the daughter of Olga Mahncke of Hamburg, Germany and Christian Jensen of Wyk auf Föhr, Germany. She was predeceased by her son, Glenn Dawson in July 2014. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her but especially by her husband, George Provol; her children and their spouses: Christina Broadwin and spouse Elliot of Fremont CA; her daughter, Kimberly Dawson and spouse Michael of Seattle WA; her son Kurt Nissen and spouse Dawn of Cortlandt Manor, NY; her grandchildren Matthew, Cassandra and Mitchell Broadwin. She will also be equally missed by her siblings and their spouses in Germany, Christa Petersen and spouse Werner; Johannes Jensen and spouse Helga and nieces and nephews, Ingeborg, Christian, and Carsten. A private memorial gathering for surviving family members will be held by the ocean in California.
