Obituary For Ursula Jensen Provol

Ursula Jensen Provol a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2014 after courageously battling lung cancer.

Born in 1944, in Germany, on the small island of Föhr located in the North Sea, Ursula shared her childhood with beloved sister Christa Petersen and brother, Johannes Jensen. Her adventurous spirit took her to New York at the age of 18, where she worked as an au pair taking care of five energetic children for a German family in Scarsdale, NY. As an adult, Ursula enjoyed being with her family, gardening, reading, watching sports (especially football), and was an avid fitness fan. She deeply enjoyed cycling, hiking, weight lifting, and beach combing. She always loved being near the ocean, and searching for shells and rocks was a favorite hobby.

She lovingly raised her family in Indianapolis, Indiana. She worked as a fitness instructor at the YMCA, and later worked at St. Vincent’s Hospital as a counselor, providing support to adults with addiction issues and helped many individuals find sobriety along the way. While in Indianapolis, she met the love of her life, George Provol, and they married on October 10, 1988 and were inseparable for nearly 40 years. Always embracing change, she and George explored life in several states, including Grant Park, IL where she was a volunteer EMT and fire fighter. While in Grant Park, her love for animals led her to organize an animal shelter in Kankakee, and she actively placed numerous animals in loving homes.. From Illinois, she moved to Texas for a few years and then braved cold winters in Apple Valley, Minnesota. Most recently she retired to Levittown, PA. Ursula had a contagious smile and a magnetic personality and will always be known as a kindhearted, warm, strong, and insightful woman.

Ursula was the daughter of Olga Mahncke of Hamburg, Germany and Christian Jensen of Wyk auf Föhr, Germany. She was predeceased by her son, Glenn Dawson in July 2014. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her but especially by her husband, George Provol; her children and their spouses: Christina Broadwin and spouse Elliot of Fremont CA; her daughter, Kimberly Dawson and spouse Michael of Seattle WA; her son Kurt Nissen and spouse Dawn of Cortlandt Manor, NY; her grandchildren Matthew, Cassandra and Mitchell Broadwin. She will also be equally missed by her siblings and their spouses in Germany, Christa Petersen and spouse Werner; Johannes Jensen and spouse Helga and nieces and nephews, Ingeborg, Christian, and Carsten. A private memorial gathering for surviving family members will be held by the ocean in California.

Your mom's strength and spirit was evidently from the few times I met her recently. You are truly her daughter in that regard, and in her love of animals. We send our deepest sympathies. Sincerely, Judy & Len Chong

It saddens me to hear this news. Ursula and George where very influential in the 1 st year of my alchohal recovery. They had no problem taking me under there wings. She was one of the kindest must giving person I ever had the pleasure to meet. I truely owe being sober today to her and her husband George for listing to me when no else would. I wish I had a chance to talk to her one last time. I will miss her. John Wyckoff

Our deepest sympathies from our family to yours...I see your mom in both of you girls. You all shared a wonderful, friendly view of the world, love of animals, and strong sense of family. My favorite memory is when your mom joined us on our playgroup camping trip...I am still looking for the write-up on that trip. She was such a great sport!

My dearest friend of 33 years - we walked and ran, hiked and biked, laughed and cried together. A little while back, she told me that when she passed, she would still be there in the birds and the flowers and the beauty of nature. She was right. She's reaching me daily by all these means and by the countless memories I have of her and will cherish always. Hey, Bear Via con Dios, Your Wolf XO

I have so many childhood memories of Ursula because the Dawson home was my second home for years. I remember raking the shag carpet and knowing better than to put even one footprint on the living room rug. That room was for looks only! I remember Ursula eating cool whip out of the container because it was a low fat snack. I remember her running a tight ship, but also giving great hugs. I remember how much fun it was when she laughed and smiled. I remember her taking me and Christina to Max and Erma's, and boy did that make me feel special. I remember countless garage sales and lots of running and biking. I remember Chris and me sneaking out in the middle of the night and taking her Cutlas to Steak-n-Shake at age 15. Neither of us had a driver's license (if one of my kids did that I would have an absolute cow!) Even though she could be strict at times, I always, always knew Ursula loved me. I could see it in her eyes. I am heart-broken that her life on earth ended sooner than it seems it should have, but I am beyond thankful that I got to know her and that she will remain always in the most precious of my childhood memories. I'm praying for comfort from Above for my Kena and sweet Kimmy and all the family. I love you.
