Passed away on March 22, 2012 in San Leandro at the age of 89. Beloved mother of Richard Chavez and his wife Irene of Union City. Loving grandmother to Jennifer Chavez of Union City, Jason Chavez of Union City, and David Chavez of San Jose. Cherished great grandmother of Angelica, Veronica, Thalia, Araceli, and Diego. Dear sister of Ruth Orozco of Union City. Predeceased by her sons David Chavez and Michael Chavez.

Born on November 11, 1922 in Cutler to Herman and Delfina Puentes. In her youth, Vera and her sister were known as ?Las Hermanas Puentes?. Together they recorded songs which were played on radio stations all over the San Joaquin Valley. She was always an avid musician but later in life she enjoyed spending as much time with her grandchildren as she could.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 28, from 5-8pm with a Vigil at 6:30pm at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 29, 10am at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 703 C Street, Union City, CA 94587. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward.
