Obituary For Vernon Lemar Shaeffer

Vernon Lemar Shaeffer passed away peacefully in his sleep May 6th, 2015 at his home in Fremont, CA. He was 87 years old. Born on April 21, 1928 in Manheim, PA. He was a long time resident of Fremont. Vern joined the Navy when he was just 18, and proudly served for over 21 years. He then went on to have a career at Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale as a fireman then became a Fire Marshal, retiring after 22 years.

Vern is survived by his wife of 59 wonderful years, Lee Shaeffer. He is also survived by his children: Elke Bednarek (Germany), Vern L. Shaeffer Jr. (Moreno Valley, CA), Richard Shaeffer (Fremont, CA), and Pete Shaeffer and his wife Debbie (El Dorado Hills, CA). He also leaves behind a sister Bebe Lou Moyer (Pennsylvania), niece Chris Alden and her husband John (Utah), 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Vern was a decent, honest, hard-working, private man who took good care of his family. He enjoyed reading, watching westerns, and fiddling with his computer gadgets. He was part of the greatest generation that lived.

At his request there will be no services.
