Obituary For Vincent Anthony Pine

One of the oldest Fremont natives, Vincent was born in Centerville on January 22, 1914 and Passed on January 15, 2013 at the age of 98, one week shy of his 99th birthday. Raised in Niles his parents owned Pine Nursery where he gained his love of gardening and the art of tree grafting. He graduated from Washington High school in 1932 and went to work for his high school music teacher who was just starting a poultry breeding operation known as Kimber Farms.

He met his future wife one Sunday at Saint Josephs Church in the mid 1930?s and married Marie in 1939. The two settled on Marie?s family Apricot Ranch on Driscoll Road, the current site of Hopkins Jr. High School. Vincent was known for his fantastic vegetable gardens, his ability to graft many fruit varieties into a single tree and he loved having the greenest lawn on his street. He was a member of IDES and SES along with being a long time parishioner of St. Josephs Church.

He retired from Kimber Farms in 1972. He and Marie enjoyed traveling with friends, his children, grand children and gardening. His wife Marie predeceased him along with a grandson Joseph Davilla, a sister Betty Rubens, brothers Clarence Pine, Patrick Pine, and Albert Pine who died in WWII. He is survived by his four children Patricia and David Davilla, Audrey and Steve Volkers, Michael and Suzanne Pine, and Albert and Lydia Pine. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Deborah, Donna, Johnny, Jack, Kari, Adam and Meghann along with five great grandchildren Paul, Christine, Nicholas, Emily and Alexandra.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 22, 10am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 43148 Mission Blvd., Fremont, CA 94539. Inurnment at the Mission Cemetery at Mission San Jose in Fremont, CA.

    Dear Pat, Mike, Audrey and Albert and family, Vince was a inspiration to all of us. His down-to-earth attitude and wise advice were just some of the reason why we treasured his friendship. We will miss him keeping an eye out for the neighborhood. God Bless, Lorraine, Tom and the girls.
