I just left a text message for Wes, and then I saw this. My heart is breaking! We were to get together, after his trip to his fishing place in Tahoe. That is one of the things I will always remember about Wes.... He had so much energy and he was always on the go! Even his scoliosis did not stop him, maybe just slowed him down a bit. I was so happy he got to drive across the country in his Tesla with his beloved Anya, a four legged companion who accompanied him on many Bromeliad Society outings as well. The other thing I will always remember about him is how caring he was. When I was a new member of the BSSF he welcomed me, and encouraged me, always happy to help and answer my questions. That was when his wife Marilyn, was still alive, but declining due to her Alzheimer's. He stuck with her until the very end, and you certainly can't say that about everyone these days. Later, as I learned a bit more about growing my Bromeliads, I ordered a few plant stands from his son, and then my plants really took off! One plant did so well, it got too big for my stand and l let him take it home to nurse it and divide it so he could have one, while I had my right knee replaced back in June. We had planned to rendez-vous so I could get one part back, as soon as he got back from fishing in late September or early October. Now, it seems that the Sunday (9/29/2019) Bromeliad Tea our club had at Peder & Marilyn's in Redwood City was to be the last time I'd see him. I am just heartsick for the loss of a good friend. My condolences to his family.
