Obituary For Wilma Daryl Drewitz

Mrs. Wilma "Daryl" Drewitz (Staniland) passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025, in Fremont, California, at the age of 82.

Born on January 9, 1943, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Daryl grew up with a deep sense of compassion that would guide her throughout her life. She attended Lynnwood Elementary and St. James Collegiate High School in Winnipeg before pursuing her passion for nursing at the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing. Her dedication to caring for others led to a fulfilling career as a dialysis nurse at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, where she served patients with skill and kindness for 30 years.

Daryl was known for her warmth, humor, and nurturing and selfless spirit. Whether through her work or personal life, she touched many lives with her generosity and kindness. For example, she volunteered her time for the Fremont Football League as the nurse alongside her husband who coached the Broncos team.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Daryl found joy in her family, her garden, collecting roses, and being actively involved in the Fremont Football League. She was particularly fond of the beautiful rose bushes that surrounded her home. Later in life, she enjoyed her dog Pumpkin, birding, and crafting. She had an appreciation for nature’s beauty and loved spending time with family at Lake Tahoe.

For the last 18 years Daryl’s physical body was interrupted by ailments that left her unable to live alone. Although burdened by physical setbacks, Daryl graciously accepted her changes in health and appreciated life to the fullest. She was blessed to have two caregivers, Nel Holiday and Sue Devi, who shared their lives deeply with Daryl and took extraordinary care of her.

She is lovingly remembered by her son Paul "Billy" Drewitz and his fiancee Jennifer Milligin; her daughter Jennifer Drewitz and husband Philip Stimac; and her grandson Thomas Stimac. She is also survived by her sister Joy Rempel and husband Peter Rempel, as well as her niece Elizabeth Rempel. Daryl was predeceased by her beloved husband Paul Drewitz III and her parents William and Olive Staniland.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 1:00 PM at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, located at 1940 Peralta Blvd, Fremont, California, 94536.

Daryl’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
